They have traveled to the Black City of the West, the city-state of Los Angeles, searching for Kel’s grandfather—the shaman of his tribe and Kel’s teacher. Traveling with them is a young girl they’d saved from abuse and prostitution once called Noria—now named Raven. They also learned in Los Angeles that the mysterious Bishop of the Cathedral had taken Kel’s grandfather and the other shamans to the South for some inscrutable purpose. So in pursuit, they headed south.Green Hell—a landmass of an unknowable rainforest and sky-touching mountains. A land invaded once again by city dwellers. It is here the Bishop and his Cathedral brethren prepare to make their stand, and here they wish to build a pure nation- a nation dedicated solely to the Redeemed God and His followers. In their eyes it is a land ripe for pillage with unlimited resources and plenty of free land for all devout men. Here, their only enemies seem to be half-human tribes-people. People who had been given to them by the Redeemed God for slave labor and rape—the men to build stone walls and the women for their pleasure houses both here and in the North. But something else is happening in the Green. The great cities the Bishop is building is really only his secondary reason for being there. His purpose for bringing the shamans south is their alleged ability to communicate with nature and animals. For a number of years he’s had his forces following rumors—legends left by the ancient city dwellers that had tried to tame the rainforest thousands of years ago. The legends spoke of something living deep in the jungle—something the Bishop could use to make the people of the Black City fall on their knees before him. He was hunting for something that he planned to use as an icon of faith—a living thing that would complement his power. Now, the Bishop’s forces have found what they seek. They’ve taken something precious from the jungle—something Lyria and Kel had no knowledge of beyond Kel’s journey and his disturbing dreams…something he’d heard…an animal sound, ancient and terrifying.Welcome to The Age of Ice. Welcome to Green Hell.
